Spotify has launched Spotify Lite, a lightweight version of the Spotify application. Lite is designed for people who have an old phone, who suffer from lack of storage or who are trapped in an unconvincing data plan. Spotify Lite fixes all these things.
What is Spotify Lite?
In the Spotify Press Room, Lite is described as "a small, fast and simplified version" of its application. You can still do (almost) everything you can with the normal application. However, there are "some additional features that make it ideal for older devices and operating systems."
Simply put, Lite offers you greater control of your data and storage. It only weighs 10MB (instead of the usual 100MB). It also allows you to set a data limit (and receive a notification when it reaches it), and allows you to clear the cache with one touch.
Kalle Persson, Senior Product Manager, commented: “Spotify Lite was created from the comments of users around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the best music experience in the world, especially in areas with bandwidth and limited phone storage ».
Lite is available on Android (v4.3 or higher) in 36 countries in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. Countries include Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Egypt, India, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Vietnam.
The best Lite applications on Android
It is not necessary to download Lite if your phone is already running the main Spotify application without any problem. Even so, for those who are stuck using an old phone or have no unlimited data to play with, Lite could be a gift from God.
Spotify is actually quite late for the party here, with other companies that have already released Lite versions of their applications. Here are the best Lite applications for Android that you can use, including Facebook Lite, Skype Lite, Twitter Lite and Shazam Lite.
