Facebook: Follow and Unfollow functions

Have you ever wondered what it means to follow someone on Facebook? How can you see who follows you? And how can you stop following someone? Here is everything you need to know about Facebook followers, as well as follow and unfollow people on the social network.

What does Follow on Facebook mean?

The Follow function is one of the least used tools of Facebook. Many people do not realize that they can use it to communicate with almost anyone on the network, even if they are not friends.

The Facebook Follow feature works in two ways:

You can see the content of other users, such as celebrities, sports stars and local journalists.

You can share some of your thoughts with the general public, even if the majority of your Facebook profile is still private.

Sounds interesting? Well keep reading under these lines. Let's take a closer look at the Follow function and how to make it work for you.

Why is the Follow function necessary?

There are two reasons: first, in the early days of the social network, your news feed was a chronological list of status updates and photos of people you cared about.

Today is a disaster. We all liked too many pages and we have many friends. Nothing in your news feed feels personal anymore. So the Follow function is one of the ways to make Facebook relevant again.

Second, it allows you to interact with people with whom you are not connected. In many ways, it is Facebook's response to Twitter.

How to Follow and Unfollow on Facebook

You automatically follow all your friends. To any other person, you must follow it manually.

To follow someone, go to your profile page and click on the "Follow" button. You will find it in the lower right corner of the cover photo of the person in question.

If you discover that one of your friends publishes too often, or simply bores you with its content. But you don't want to offend them by not answering comments, you can stop following them. Unfollowing someone will prevent your posts from appearing on your wall, but they will still see your posts in your feed.

To unfollow a person, navigate to their profile page and locate the "Next" menu. Again, in the cover photo of the person.

Expand the drop-down menu and you will see three options: See first, Default and Unfollow. The View first option means that your content has priority in your feed. The default value is the regular priority level. You must select Unfollow. The person will not know that you have stopped following him.

How do you see who you are following?

You can see who you are following on your friends list. Go to your profile page and select the Friends tab. On the next screen, you will see a new set of tabs. Choose the "Next" tab. If you do not see the option, it means that you are not following anyone other than a friend you have added.

How can you make people follow you?

As you have seen, following other people is quite simple, but how do you allow other people to follow your profile and your posts? You must activate the function in the Facebook settings.

Go to Settings, then Public Publications. And now, click on "Who can follow me" and select "Public" from the drop-down menu.
This same page contains three other configurations that you should know:
Public post comments: Decide if you want to allow random people to comment on your public posts.

Notifications of public publications: Do you want to receive notifications of actions taken by people who are not your friends?

Public profile information: part of your profile, such as your profile picture, cover image and short biography, is always public. This setting restricts who can comment on this information.

What do Facebook followers see?

Followers can see any of your public content. Remember, this not only refers to text-based publications, but you can also choose to take photos, make albums, videos and even your tastes of public knowledge.

You can make a public publication by clicking on the drop-down menu below the text box, when you are writing a message. Similarly, you can adjust the visibility of images and videos in a similar way.

To make your “likes” and your followers public, go to your profile and then to More. Then to Like. Click on the Manage icon and choose “Edit the privacy of your tastes”. For each category, you can set the visibility you want.

So that the people you follow are public knowledge, go back to More and then to Like. Then, go to "Manage." But select "Edit the privacy of your followers." Set Who can see the people, pages and lists you follow? You put the option: public.

How to see who follows you on Facebook

Seeing who is following you is the same as seeing who you are following. Again, go to your friends list. You can access from your profile page. This time, locate the tab labeled "Followers." If you have no followers, or have not allowed followers in your Facebook settings, you will not see the option.

When a new person follows you and is not yet one of your friends, you will receive a notification.

How can followers be deleted?

So far so good? Then it is excellent news. Next, we will tell you: how do you get rid of people you no longer want to follow?

Of course, the most drastic approach is to completely eliminate followers. You will eliminate all followers who are not yet your friends. For a more nuanced approach, you must block people one by one.

Navigate to the profile page of the person you wish to delete. In the lower right corner of that person's cover photo, click on the three horizontal dots.

Now you have two options: Report or Block. If you only want to prevent someone from viewing your public content, choose Block. The person will not be able to see your timeline, tag you in posts or photos, invite you to groups, start a chat conversation with you or add you as a friend. If the person has been abusive, choose Report. You can report the full profile of the person or a publication. As well as an individual comment

Should you use the Follow function on Facebook?

Hopefully, this article has given you a better understanding of the Facebook Follow feature. If you decide to use this function, it will depend on how you use your Facebook.

If you are the type of person who has a great list of friends and at the same time you like infinite brands and pages, you may find it useful. However, if you have decided to start removing many friends from Facebook and avoid liking the content too much, you probably won't see any benefit.
